On Photography turns photography towards itself, examining the medium as both a means of representation and a subject of investigation. Through questions of truth, memory, the photographic act, and non-photography, the project explores what defines a photograph at a moment when the medium's boundaries are becoming increasingly unstable.
About the project
On Photography examines the photographic medium by turning it back on itself. Developed as an artistic research project, it asks what photography is at a moment when technological transformations increasingly challenge its established definitions and boundaries.
The project revisits concepts historically associated with photography—such as truth, memory, representation, and the photographic act—and confronts them with emerging forms of image production and the notion of non-photography. Rather than seeking a definitive definition of the medium, the individual works question which of its attributes remain relevant as the technologies, processes, and conditions through which photographs are produced continue to change.
Particular attention is given to the act of photographing itself: the moment of pressing the shutter, the relationship between this gesture and the resulting image, and the shifting significance of photographic presence.
On Photography marks an early stage of an ongoing inquiry into the identity and boundaries of the photographic medium, approaching photography not only as a means of representation, but as a subject of investigation in its own right.
